| - Bowties has been around for a LONG time. I was born and raised in Green Valley and I remember passing by this store since I was a child. I had gone with my friend to get her dress at Bowties a few months prior and was there for her horrible experience. Despite that, I wanted to give the shop a chance, so it was my first stop when I finally got engaged. I was so incredibly excited to try on dresses and have that "bridal moment". Unfortunately, Bowties completely RUINED this for me.
I went with my mom, future mother-in-law, and two bridesmaids. Rochelle was incredibly nice (more to come on this) when we walked in and told us that one of the other girls would be helping me. I roamed around looking at dresses and waited for the sales associate to help me. About 20 minutes later, she arrived; I don't recall what her name was, but she had a Russian accent. I told her what I was looking for. She then proceeded to pick out a ton of dresses that were the EXACT opposite of what I wanted. I told her I didn't like those styles and she told me that she knew what would look good on me and to just "trust her". I felt like I was in Russia and Stalin was my dress assistant.
She put the dresses in a room and told me to try them on. I don't know if you've ever tried on wedding dresses, but there's a reason for bridesmaids. You need help getting that thing on. She didn't want to help me! I finally got her to help me put them on and every single dress was just AWFUL and not what I wanted. My mother said I looked completely miserable in every single dress I tried on. And what's worse is that the sales girl insisted I was WRONG for not liking the dress! I'm sorry...what?!
After about 7 dresses, I was completely defeated and just wanted to get out of there. However, I had seen one dress online that I knew they carried and wanted to try it on. It was an Allure bridal dress. I tried it on and it was STUNNING. Absolutely Stunning. I loved it. Rochelle came over, complimented me, and then said "the designer is taking 15% off all dresses bought today". WARNING to all ladies, she says this to everyone as a way to try and get people to buy their dress right then and there. Don't fall for it.
I politely told Rochelle that while I really did love the dress. It was my first day trying on dresses and I wanted to go to a few other places in and out of town. She asked me where else I was going to look in Las Vegas, which I felt was inappropriate and none of her business, but told her anyways. She immediately became hostile with me and said "well, you know that they carry the same exact designers as we do. The only difference is that they also carry prom dresses." That was the final straw for me.
I had Rochelle give me their price for the dress, how much it would be with the "one day sale" discount, and an approximate cost on alterations. That's where a whole new issue came up. BEWARE OF THEIR SIZING!!! She measured me and told me I would need to order a size 16 in the dress. My measurements were between a 12 and 14. Why on earth would i order a 16?! I'll tell you why...it's so Bowties can charge you an arm and a leg for alterations. She said I would need about $600 in alterations. That's just ABSURD considering all I would have wanted is a hem and the crinoline taken out of the skirt. I later found out that they did this exact thing to one my friends who ordered her dress. She was a size four, but they ordered a size 6 and then charged her $900 in alterations (hem, bustle, and obviously, taking in the entire dress). This is how they make money on unsuspecting brides.
I took all the information to the other store I was going to (I'll be nice and won't post the name in this review). Not only did they match the "one day sale" price, they also told me to order the appropriate size and quoted my alterations at approximately $125. SOLD.
Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time going here. As Rochelle so pointedly said, the other store in town (there's really only two major bridal stores in Vegas) carries the same exact designers as Bowties.
