| - Love it!!! My favorite thing about Harris Teeter is most of the stores have a section dedicated to local farms. Well, most of the produce found at this farmer's market are local, or they're sourced from reputable places. I dropped by on a Sunday just after they opened up, not really knowing what to expect. There was really only one full building (from the reviews, I guess the day to come is on a Saturday). PRODUCE GALORE. I was so happy!
Super fresh peaches, blackberries, watermelons (seeded watermelons! yay!), and more from the local or good-sourced guys. A number of them claim they don't even use pesticides. Um, awesome! The prices were amazing. It was only $20 for a giant box of peaches. Um, can you say PEACH PIES!? Nom nom.
We picked up some local honey as well for a great price ($16 for a giant jar), a massive bunch of kale for only $1, and I got a giant seeded watermelon for $7. There was also a local bakery with some super yummy breads. Seeing all of the produce here, and for the prices, I am resolved to come back every week and only do my produce shopping here. I cannot wait to see what else there is on a Saturday!
Tips:
- Come early. Seriously. We got in at around 12:30 on a Sunday and it started to get uncomfortably packed by 1pm.
- Bring cash. There's a sketchy ATM at the front end of one of the buildings, but why bother?
- Bring your own grocery bags and fruit crates if you've got them. I filled up my tote bag and satchel pretty quickly, and they ask that you return the plastic crates. Seems fair to me.
