MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MUSEUM
The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) is located in Phoenix, Arizona.
Opened in April 2010, it is the largest museum of its type in the world.
The collection of over 15,000 musical instruments and associated objects includes examples from nearly 200 countries and territories, representing every inhabited continent.
Some larger countries such as the United States, Mexico, India, China, and Brazil have multiple displays with subsections for different types of ethnic, folk, and tribal music.
The Museum was founded by Robert J. Ulrich, former CEO and chairman of Target Corporation.
An avid collector of African art and a world museum enthusiast, Ulrich and his friend Marc Felix originated the idea after a visit to the Instrument Museum in Brussels, Belgium.
The design of the museum benefited as well from the expert consultation of the Musée de la Musique in Paris modernised in 1997.
The contemporary building covers approximately 200,000 square-feet, with two floors of light-filled galleries.
Built at a cost of over $250 million, MIM creates an exciting musical experience for visitors.
The exhibit for each country features a flat screen high-resolution video showing local musicians performing on native instruments.
Visitors can listen to the performances through a wireless guidePORT and headphones that are activated automatically when an exhibit is being observed.
The facility contains a 299-seat theater for concerts, which are held primarily after regular hours.
There is also a cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating.
THE STORY & SERVICE EXPERIENCE
I was using the Yelp app, and BOOM! The Musical Instrument Museum popped up! Obviously, it's an advertising based pop up, but who cares? They paid for the advertising, they deserve the business.
First Impression: GLORIOUS! What a sight to behold!

5. The price is right! $20 for a day pass.
6. The exhibits are top-notch.
7. The whole museum is fitted with individual high-tech interactive earphones/exhibits.
8. The staff is FRIENDLY.
9. There is a very nice café with indoor/outdoor seating.
10. There are facilities for teaching and a full theater.
I walked up to the service desk, and spoke with the delightful Bergen. She explained the museum to me, as well as pointed out some of her favorite exhibits.
For an extra $7, you can check out the "Target Gallery," which has temporary exhibits. I decided to get the added exhibit, and it was outstanding!
I wandered around the museum, from start to finish, and I think I saw most of everything.
I especially loved the interactive music exhibit on the ground level.
I thought the Guggenheim-esque staircase with the tile world map mosaic was so charming.
I could go on and on, but you should just go see it for yourself! It's amazing!
CONCLUSION
I LOVE the beautiful attention to detail in this museum.
It's obvious that no expense was spared in crafting this museum. Phoenix is very, very lucky to have this wonderful museum!
THE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MUSEUM IS A MUST SEE!
