We should have taken the giant menus as a hint that the desserts here are large, but I was thirsty and got a little overly confident with the amount of food I am able to eat. Instead of sharing, I had a frozen hot chocolate all to myself. The big bowl came with two straws and I took a deep breath. There was no way I can finish that. Armed with their own giant root beer float and fried Oreo sundae, none of my dining companions wanted to help me out.
The chocolate was good. But I am not sure if "good" is good enough to justify its fame. I don't foresee myself craving it anytime soon, and definitely cannot fathom how people would wait for hours in NYC for a table at Serendipity. If I want to go to a touristy spot that serves enormous ice cream dishes, I would go line up at Ghiradelli (another place that is strangely popular).
