I haven't been to many pick-your-own places but today I went to Whittamore's for the first time with some friends. The farm was bigger than I expected and fairly well laid-out. The signage was pretty clear and there was ample free parking. It was very BUSY (one employee said it was the busiest Canada Day she'd seen) and the polite young staff were doing their darndest to keep everyone in line. The visitors weren't really listening to directions very well, but all in all the crowds were friendly AND the best part was they prevented a gentleman from backing into my car with a collective "whoah!!" (I couldn't believe the guy didn't see me so I wasn't even about to honk but he kept coming back! my car is bright blue... when reversing LOOK BEHIND YOU; if you were driving forwards you wouldn't be staring out the back window. Sadly, common sense is not a flower that grows in everyone's garden. Or maybe he was just sunstruck from working the fields for long hours, who knows, anyway I felt the communal love and it made my day). They have a playground, an outdoor covered eating area, a market and lots of fresh produce. You can bring your own containers or buy at the farm. No wonder it is so popular! :) Remember to bring a hat and/or sunscreen and beware of some of the prickly weeds. We only picked strawberries and my only complaint was that they didn't smell like strawberries like they did once upon a time, but then again neither do the ones at the grocery store so I guess it might just be the variety.
