I had a storage unit here 18 months and I paid for insurance on top of it. Significant water got in the front of the unit, I assume during heavy rains we had earlier. It was at 8-10" water marks on my king mattress--which was inside a plastic sheeting bag, and on one of the cabinets to my King pier bed unit--it ruined the wood. Many boxes up front got wet too, but they didn't create any damage. This unit was not packed tight. What I was told in mentioning the water damage at move-out, was that "I told you when you rented not to put anything up front". I was NOT told that when I rented. And nothing was actually at the door, the damaged items were at least a foot back. So actually they didn't care, and this was the manager Paul. I did not file a claim--and I am not sure why they charge for insurance they don't offer to use. I did not file a claim because I didn't know if I would keep the King bed--because the movers who stored it damaged the bridge and broke the mirrors. It turned out I did not keep it, but only realized the mattress damage when I unpackaged it. I am not happy with Paul's response about the water damage and not stepping up like they should have. I would not rent here again. They made a lot of money from my storage over 18 months and the added $8 a month insurance and they still don't care if your property is damaged or that they are responsible.
