  • I have a small obsession with oysters which are difficult to find in Pittsburgh, so from the moment I heard Muddy Waters was opening, I couldn't wait to check it out! We secured a reservation and had dinner with two other couples last Friday and had a great experience. Although, I would definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on the weekend or with a larger group. We didn't realize how small the restaurant is and you're literally sitting on top of other tables. For this reason, it's also extremely loud. They had music playing loudly and with the tables so close to one another everyone was shouting to talk. This may not be the case during the week, but on a busy Friday evening we struggled to talk to one another. But that is literally the only negative about our experience here, though. Everything else was great! We started with ordering all of the oysters, of course. We tried the chefs tasting of both east and west coast oysters ($36 for 12), the char-grilled oysters and oysters rockefeller. They were all wonderful. We especially loved the char-grilled oysters with lemon and garlic. We also sampled the smoked deviled eggs and the hush puppies. Again, the whole table really enjoyed everything! Our server was extremely attentive, made recommendations and always checked in on us. Poor guy was losing his voice from talking over everyone, but he was a trooper! For my entree, I had the shrimp and grits and it was delicious! Highly recommend this dish. Others in our group had the blackened salmon, the lobster roll and the gumbo - all were pleased with their meals! I also loved the variety on the cocktail menu - great cocktails, champagne, wine and a solid beer selection. It's not often you can find somewhere that does everything well. The sparkling rose on the menu was wonderful and paired perfectly with the oysters. I definitely will stop back to try their brunch or happy hour next!
