  • If you are a fan of the movie, you must visit this home. Just know that it is rather small and beyond actually being in the house and seeing a few items/parts used in the movie, it amounts to maybe 5-10 minutes of looking around. There is a tour guide who provides the background of how the house was chosen and used for the movie, the story behind the purchase and renovation, and important movie facts - this does enhance the experience, but does feel a little lengthy. The tour also includes the backyard (with the shed from the "Black Bart scene") and a separate house with a great deal of movie memorabilia. There is also a significant gift shop in which to buy movie related items - a good choice of items with some items that aren't too overpriced. The only thing that left me put off was the indifference of the gift shop staff. They sell the tour tickets, but you'd never know because a group of them were standing around talking and seem surprised/put off when we walked up and inquired about the tour. One of them did manage to help us, but she seemed like she'd rather have continued her conversation. Then, she didn't provide us any details on the tour. As she was walking away, we managed to ask about it, to the which she responded in passing "it meets right here at 10:15" as if we should have known. I've taken many museum tours and I found this aspect of our experience to be unusual (and an example of extremely poor customer service). As we waited for the tour, though, we noticed two other couples have a very similar experience - had to interrupt the conversation, seemed to be an annoyance, and weren't provided information about the tour until they asked. I realize this is possibly a one-off example, but seemed to be the norm this morning. It is worth noting. I do recommend the tour because of the uniqueness of the experience, but I believe there is work to be done to enhance the customer experience (tour guide presentation and staff/customer interaction)
