| - I have spent a lot of time in Northern and Southern California where there are big Thai communities and the restaurants work very hard to be the best in their food genre.
This place is cute and they worked very hard to make it look amazing...which it does.
The waitstaff is awesome. They are attentive and they are friendly.
The food is Thai food for people who haven't had real Thai food. Thai food should have layers of flavor all working together.
For example..we ordered the Coconut Soup and the FOB Rice (Fresh off Pineapple Boat). These items were tasty, except the chicken that is being used for this was cooked in such a way that they could use in in both dishes. These means that the chicken has to be cooked with no discernable taste. Although the soup and the Rice were really awesome, when you get to the pieces of chicken, they haven't been able to develop any flavor and they are extremely bland. This takes a potentially awesome dish and kills the awesomeness.
We did order a few appetizers, Curry Puffs, Secret Stickers, and Edamame. The Curry Puffs and Secret Stickers are interestingly enough cooked in what seems to be a Bisquick-type dough instead of the typical Thai-style dumpling shao-mai wrappers. The Edamame had the layers of flavor and heat that I was looking for.
When I expressed to the waitress that I wished that the food was a little hotter, she did bring me three things to add to my meal. The first one was a dish of pepper flakes, the second was something that may have been sriracha and the last was the sriracha with the pepper flakes in it. Thai sauces should vary, not just be about heat but should be about traditional Thai flavors.
We also ordered 2 entrees, the Crying Tiger Steak and the Kao-Soi (Pork Shoulder).
The steak arrived cooked perfectly but cold. (This is why many restaurants will tell you that a plate is hot when they serve your food...a room temperature plate will lower the heat of your meal by 10 degrees or more by the time it gets to your table) and the Kao-Soi in this bath of really tasty but a sloppy mess of slightly overcooked egg noodles. The pork was cooked perfectly. All was tasty.
WIll we go back? No.
There are so many places in Vegas that we will only return to the ones that have memorable food...and there are a lot of Thai restaurants to visit.
