  • My friend passed by this place and told me it had a funny name. I had never heard of it, but then again the waitress told me they opened on July 2 2010... The restaurant looks quite nice, bright red awning with a female pig hung on top of the restaurant name. "grosse truie" means fat female pig. They have a terasse in the back which is nice in the summer. A lot of the decor is recycled stuff, like bowling lanes doubling as tabletops, some light fixtures used to be street lamps on ile ste-helene... anyhow to the food, given that the restaurant just opened and they only open from wed-sat... ??? I will try not to bash it too much, but basically we were not impressed with this place. The name is what brought us in but nothing else is going to make us come back... We had the fumaison and seared foie gras for entrées. the foie gras was not listed on the menu, but was recommended by the waiter, so naturally we took it. I'm glad we did, because the foie gras turned out to be the best dish of the night!!! The fumaison had three items on the plate, smoke duck breast with date jam, foie gras ballotine with red pepper chutney and smoked salmon with sour cream and caviar. Sounds impressive on the menu, not so impressive in execution... The only item on the fumaison plate any good was the foies gras, the other two, the smoked duck breast was bland added the date jam was to sweet overpowering it. The salmon was smelly, served with sour cream nothing new there... we went through the seared foie gras in no time before we even touched the fumaison plate... Then we had the piglet (porcelet) and lamb (agneau) dishes. Both of which were good, especially the piglet, nice and juicy, with a nice thick dark sauce, looks like soy sauce, but didn't taste like it. It came with cheese polenta and veggies. The polenta was nice and soft it tasted like smooth mash potatoes, really nice dish. Word of warning, it is a piece of pork belly, so there is skin and fat in it, if you don't like fat steer clear of this dish. I love pork fat and skin so... The lamb was also very well made, it did not smell, and it was tender and juicy. the side was a sort of eggplant mash which I didn't care too much for. All in all very nice main dishes. made up for the rest. We also ordered a side of parmesan fries, they were really nice, not overpowering with cheese but you can taste it, this i really like, and i love fries. We opted not to have dessert, one because we were full and two we did not feel adventurous after the fumaison dish, we cut our losses and asked for the bill. I like this place, but sad to say it disapointed, on the whole that one dish just made everything else less good because we're still stuck on that bad dish... maybe i'll give it a second chance next year, if the menu changes :)
