| - Great food. Everything we tried was amazing, starting with the braised pork belly that dare I say was...unctuous? The word sounds almost dirty and is way overused, but I think it belongs here. The dish was fatty and flavorful, and gone all too quickly. We washed this down with Yuzu, which was an enlightening and delicious drink discovery. It's absolutely fantastic stuff - every time you sip it down halfway, just add some water and it's like you have a a whole new drink again. The stuff is freakin magic and cannot be diluted!
For entrées I got an 8 oz. filet and the wife got lamb chops. Both were perfectly seared medium rare with a melt in your mouth buttery texture. The filet's dipping sauce was a bit too strong, so use sparingly lest you hide that beautiful beefy flavor.
To finish, we ordered the almond torte with lemon buttermilk ice cream. It was a random selection, and we definitely don't regret it. Using yet another overused food word, the dessert was decadent and the odd ice cream flavor meshed perfectly with the sweet pastry underneath. There was some tasty white goo and a fruity drizzle as well. Don't embarrass yourself, this place is too upper crust for licking the plate.
So for negatives - I wasn't particularly impressed with the 'Honor and Glory" cocktail that I ordered. It's my own fault though for ignoring grapefruit in the ingredients list - I should have known it wouldn't be subtle. Also, be prepared for a long evening - service was agonizingly slow and I'm pretty sure it's intentional since the place wasn't busy and every other table seemed to be lingering in the restaurant indefinitely. I think we were meant to savor our meal slowly and pine away the evening like rich, retirees. Unfortunately, I'm a bit uncultured and the pace didn't jive with my Hoover style food inhalation. I cast many longing looks at the waiter, who to his credit was quite friendly and at least kept us watered. Finally, this place is at the upper end of a $$$ rating, though I think the quality of our meal merited the splurge.
