  • I've always heard about the "Conservatory and Botanical Garden" at the Bellagio and I've always thought it was an outdoor garden but it's not; it's indoors; it's free and it's 14,000 square feet of ultimate beauty; great for all ages! The Bellagio is smart to offer this attraction - I'm sure without it, the Bellagio wouldn't have half the foot traffic that it has now, not to mention potential hotel, restaurant and retail business dollars from the tourists and locals alike who flock to the themed displays year-round. (Note - the shops flank the garden and I ended up spending some cash at Giardini Garden Store....very smart, Bellagio, very smart...) Last time I was here it was six years ago and the Conservatory hosted the Chinese New Year exhibit, which was breath taking. I can only imagine the amount of work and planning that goes into creating such a live mural of live plants, a networking of (hidden) electrical wiring and lights, animatronics, gigantic statues and suspended installations. You can visit Bellagio's web page and see live up-to-the minute cams, which refresh every 15 minutes if you want to get an idea of what the place looks like. There's even time-lapse archives of older projects and it's fascinating to see the amount of work that goes into creating such an amazing botanical space. This summer the exhibit is Under The Sea, which lasts from May 20 - Sept 10. It was hard to take non-blurry photos because it was so crowded and I had to keep moving, but it was a sight so pretty that you can totally immerse yourself in the moment and be happy and forget about the rest of the world.
