  • DaanGo Cake Lab is located on Midland Ave in Scarborough between Finch and NcNicoll. Opened by a former Masterchef Canada contestant, I was excited to try his desserts at his shop. I had watched his season and was always making sure I had a chance to try his desserts at Toronto events like Sweetery or even at Bake Code (with his macarons). Excited by the idea that he was finally opening his own shop, I was somewhat disappointed by the macarons (although they are very cute). Macaron wise, although they are very cute to photograph and look at, they lack the right consistency and texture of a macaron. My family and I were disappointed after taking a bite of the macarons. The macaron shell was much softer than expected and it had almost a non-existent almond flavour (compared to other well known pastry shops here in Toronto). This alone was disappointing and I probably will not purchase the macarons again. The quality of these delicate pastries were not up to par with other bakeries in Toronto unfortunately. I hope they continue to perfect and improve the quality of their macarons; I felt like the quality of the macaron was compromised as the presentation and cuteness of the characters were more important. I know Baker Siu can make great macarons (I've purchased some at Sweetery and his other events), but for some reason, these ones I bought at DaanGo were not of the same caliber. Cake wise, I did get to try the Zen cake which I thoroughly enjoyed! The light cheesecake with sesame and matcha layers was not too sweet and the sesame flavour really shined through thanks to the sesame crust. The creaminess of the layers worked very well together! Overall, I would come back for the cakes, the macarons...not so much.
