| - I wrote a fairly detailed review on TripAdvisor, but I felt I should write a little something here. I was here this past weekend for a conference. The hotel is definitely a mixed bag. On the plus side, the hotel seems clean, the rooms are decent, and when things don't go as expected, they generally seem interested in remedying the problems.
And there were problems. They didn't have the king bed that was on my reservation unless I wanted to wait a few hours (and I had arrived after 3 PM), but as I needed to set up for a conference, I didn't really have that luxury, so I settled for a queen. Room decor isn't my style and feels a bit tacky, but there was nothing particularly wrong with it. There could be more plug-ins, or at least more modern seeming ones (the outlets are pretty worn, and things don't hold well). The big problem with the room, which was accessible for people with disabilities, was the shower. You really can't use it unless you sit on the little bench and hold the nozzle in your hand. Otherwise, as I discovered after my first shower, you will literally flood 2/3 of the bathroom (multiple design flaws contribute to this problem, which is major). So after that, they moved me to a regular room, and the shower worked as it should. At least there was no argument about moving, and this time I even had the king bed I should have had in the first place.
Other problems include the lack of mini-fridges in the rooms (doesn't everyone have them these days?)--but at least they brought one up when I asked (even if it took two times)--and the fact that it took nearly 45 minutes to get a bellhop to help me move out of the exhibit hall, thus delaying my departure from the hotel.
A positive was the valet parking, which is both free (other than tips) and efficient, but the Tropicana, maybe because the rates are pretty reasonable, seems to attract a somewhat sketchier crowd, particularly at night, than some of the more upscale resorts. In any case, it's close enough to OK that it gets three stars--because they at least made a good effort to fix things after they messed them up. But there's definitely room for improvement here, and it doesn't quite feel like it's representing the Hilton brand well enough yet.
