| - We came to this Turkish restaurant for our next dining excursion after reading a string of positive reviews on Yelp. Upon arrival, the modest and casual interior encompassed a front counter, TV, a few tables spread across the tiled floor, and cultural artifacts neatly arranged on the walls. The atmosphere was quiet and subdued, as we were the only customers in the restaurant during our visit.
The Ezme ($5.49) was made with spicy eggplant and a piece of pita cut into four small pieces. The eggplant had a smooth consistency and was spicy delicious. The appetizer was very tasty but the portion was small. There was also not enough pita bread to enjoy it all.
The Chicken Gyro Wrap ($5.49) came with tender chunks of chicken, lettuce, onion, tomato, and spicy tzatziki wrapped in-between a thick pita. The chicken was nicely seasoned, and the spicy tzatziki was a tasty anchor to accompany the secondary ingredients to brighten the wrap. The thick pita was not homemade, but held everything together well. It was a solid Gyro Wrap. I recommend it.
The Adana with Lamb ($9.99) came with one strip of ground lamb kofte with spicy seasoning, hummus and salad. Adana is usually flat, thick, and substantive, but I find the one here rather skinny and inadequate. Taste-wise, it was still juicy, spicy, and delicious, but the repetitive stingy portions got on our nerves after a while. The hummus was creamy and the salad was fresh to add texture. We don't need to eat big portions to get full, but in this case, we were still hungry after finishing the meal.
Turkish cuisine is widely considered as a social food, but our experience here hardly reflected those sensibilities. Service was not attentive, friendly, genuine, or generous. The way we were treated felt more like a business transaction than a home-style dining experience. Interested diners can expect good food, but a lack of love in the portion size and customer service. 2.5 stars for the skimpy dishes and an overall lackluster experience. We are a fan of the cuisine, but will not be coming back to support this local eatery.
