  • I'd like to give some recognition to Mark Mangum, District Manager for Mattress Firm and the Happy Valley store, for their generosity and genuine care and support they have shown to Drive By Blessings and Veterans we serve: I had a Veteran exiting the Mana HOUSE program who has a service related back injury. As I have a back injury myself and know all too well how a good mattress is so important, I reached out to DBB volunteer Martin Bowe to find out if his company Mattress Firm could help. District Manager Mark Mangum came to our call for help and told us that they would love to donate a $600 mattress for Veteran, Trevor. We went Friday to pick one out, and Trevor selected one that was covered under that price range, as the Memory foam mattress that was a better fit for him exceeded our budget. A local family was also in the store that day , who overhead our conversations and recognized our Drive By Blessings shirts we were wearing. Upon explaining the reason while we were in there, the father of this family approached me and asked if he could pitch in the remaining amount needed to get the memory foam mattress that we couldn't afford. Folks - I can't begin to explain how this all happened. (Well I do know but won't push my religious beliefs here) but for a young Veteran like Trevor who has a sad life story and even more sad recent struggles - for him to receive such an huge gift from absolute strangers, from Mattress firm to this local family .... angels I tell you ! You guys have no idea what a gift like this does for Veterans like Trevor. The work we do with them DOES directly and positively impact their life after homelessness, and him receiving a brand new mattress that would help his back injury....I know that this will just propel Trevor to continue the good work he has started, overcoming the obstacles that led him to homelessness in the first place. We are ALL Blessed to have companies like Mattress Firm, run by managers like Mark, in our community. And I am grateful to be able to bring recognition to some of our local Angel's today. Thank you Mattress firm for being the location that allowed this small miracle to happen. And thank you to the family who helped us out!.
