  • I had a master stylist named TK. He seemed to know what he was doing and was very patient and precise with his technique. I came in asking for an ash blonde/silver balayage ombre. I showed him the picture and he said that he will try his best to get me to that colour but it would be difficult because of my asian hair and the fact that it was colour before. Before we began he asked me about what I wanted. And I told him that I wanted my hair to be like the picture but that I understood the colour will probably not be exactly the same. He then threw some words about s'ombre and balayage and blending. To be honest, I didn't really understand what he was talking about as I don't usually get my hair done at a salon. I just said do whatever you need to do to make it look good with my skin tone. That was my own fault. I should've stuck to the fact that I wanted my hair to look as much as the picture as he could do it. He did one process -- it took 2 hours for him to do this. When he finally rinsed it, most of my hair was a brassy orange/yellow -- he said I would need to do another process in order to get the right blonde for my colour. So he put the toner in and I ended up getting something that I didn't envision -- through my own fault because of our miscommunication and misunderstanding. It wasn't ugly but it wasn't the ombre I wanted. The entire process took 6 hours -- they said it would take 3. It would have been nice if we were offered coffee or something as we did our hair for that many hours but perhaps they're just not the type of salon to do that? They did offer crackers after we kept saying how hungry we were (6 hours later when we were almost done). As a stylist, I really liked him. Perhaps if I was more outspoken and firm with what I wanted, we could have achieved the ombre. I left the salon feeling okay about the entire appointment. The hair looked decent in their dark lighting. It wasn't til I got home that I couldn't sleep and started to feel like the "balayage" that he did was really something that I didn't like on me. On one side it looked pretty good because it was blended so well with my natural hair. But on the other side it looked like chunks of highlights. It didn't blend as nice and it just looked bad. I found out later in order for me to correct it and get the ombre that I wanted, I would have to pay closely to $200 or more. I can understand that, especially as other salons usually charge that for balayage if we were to start from the bottom up. But as a customer that wasn't too happy with the colour I was hoping that the owner Ayeesha would have made arrangements to do it for cheaper or give a deal. I wouldn't mind going back to TK and getting my hair done again by him as I feel like he really cares about his customers. My lesson in this is I should be more verbal and firm with what I have in mind -- lesson learned.
