| - Made reservations for 7pm on a Saturday evening but found myself a bit hungrier at an earlier time and walked in to a fairly empty restaurant at 6:30pm to bump my reservation up. They gladly seated my boyfriend and I and promptly served us.
This is exactly the kind of place a San Francisco raised and Los Angeles based Yelper is looking for when they're visiting Pittsburgh! It's Caribbean food set in what i believe is the cultural district of Pittsburgh. The atmosphere is cool, sexy, fun, and semi romantic. There's a full bar, dim lights, and a bunch of island like paintings on the wall, and some other unique decorations.
Started off with the JAMAICAN JERK WINGS. Woo! This is spicyyyy. The range of spices coasting the wings somehow burst in your mouth as fast as the heat does. 8 wings come plated on a cilantro cream dip which i assume is supposed to cool your mouth a bit and balance the power of the spices but it didn't do as good of a trick as my 2 glasses of iced water did to fight the burn. Good stuff though!
We split the BEEF BARBACOA TACOS and although we didn't ask them to, they actually split the dish for us assuming we were sharing. These are very large tacos on a flour tortilla. I didn't find anything special about them. A bit bland to me. They were around $17 so I'd pass on this next time and try something else.
All desserts are $6.50. We ordered the trio of sorbets to cleanse our palates. I was taken by the unusual variety of sorbets but was sad to hear they ran out of the nectarine sorbet. Instead we had the:
CARROT LIME SORBET - wow. this was revolting.
MANGO CARDAMON - interesting.. not bad, but not my fav.
DULCE DE LECHE ICE CREAM - fantastic!
All sorbets/ice cream scoops come on top of a mini tart :)
Our bill came up to around $50 (including a pint of Ocktoberfest beer) for 2 people. Will come again next time i'm in the area!! Thanks Pittsburgh Yelpers for leading me to a great restaurant! 4 stars for a great appealing and different menu, the alcohol, atmosphere, and the service.
