  • Too expensive for what you receive. Their cupcakes are already expensive ($3.50 for just a regular 'ol cupcake) and while they are good, it's a cupcake. 95% of cupcakes are good! It's not any better or worse than much cheaper cupcakes I've had that you can buy at other bakeries around town. Anyway, I wanted "custom" cupcakes (4.50+tax per cupcake) which were to includ little themed decorations on each cupcake. At almost $5 per cupcake I was expecting some really creative/ intricate designs on every single cupcake (since I paid the custom price for all of them)! I ordered a dozen. Half of them had something cool on it (like I paid for), a few came with a generic flat, edible circle on top with teenage-girl-ish writing on it (was that supposed to pass as a custom one??? I could have done that!), and some didn't come with any extra design at all (gasp!! I paid for each one to have custom designs! The ones that didn't have a well thought out design shouldn't have been priced at the custom level!) Bottom line, if you're gonna pay for custom cupcakes from them, BE SPECIFIC ABOUT EACH AND EVERY CUPCAKE and what you want on it. DON'T ASK THEM TO JUST MAKE THEMED ONES and leave it up to them because they'll give you a couple good ones then leave the other custom ones with a boring, generic something extra they can pass off as custom. Be advised, when you check out in store, they have one of those modern touch screens that suggests you leave a hefty tip on something you already paid a ridiculously excess amount of money for (still can't get over almost $5 per cupcake). Now, I'm all for tipping when it comes to some sort of service but I literally paid a ton for the extras on my cupcakes. If I ordered normal cupcakes and then they decided to do something special, I would say that warrants a tip, but I already PAID for the extra. It should be up to the customer to tip, but with this giant tip suggestion in your face as you check out it just feels uncomfortable to be pressured to tip on something you already paid extra for with the cashier staring at you as you finish you transaction. (For the record I tipped about 10% because I felt pressured but I didn't feel like I should have had to). I can see how these can be fun if you order one or two in store but they're way too expensive once you get up there in numbers (No discount the more you order?! If you want 20 custom CUPCAKES, be prepared to pay about $100). I don't care how good a cupcake is, they're cupcakes. Cupcakery's cupcakes are good (can get exact same quality at other bakeries for much cheaper) but pricing is way too much and I won't be going back.
