| - Background: Picture this, a young 30 something girl getting her exercise on to try to lose weight, get her life in order, and to feel better about herself. Then tragedy strikes a foot injury. Two doctors, a walking boot, MRI, three x-rays, a steroid shot, 12 weeks of PT, and six months later she is on the road to recovery. But now she needs really good shoes in order to get her exercise plan back on track.
I walked in and was immediately greeted at the front door by Brad. I told him that I was referred to Fleet Feet by a nurse that I worked with that also was an old employee. A few of the other employees chimed in her name saying that they loved her. Just a really warm environment to walk into. I was impressed from the start.
Brad had me walk around the store to check my gait and checked out my feet as I just stood there. I told him my background and what I needed shoes for and he assured me that we were going to find a perfect pair. I was apprehensive because the last pair that I purchased sent me down the rabbit hole of injury and I did not want to repeat that at all.
Brad had his hands full with me. He brought out different inserts, different shoes, and even a compression sleeve. He was patient, listed to my complaints and worries and always had an answer for my questions, even if they seemed odd. (I asked about the stitching in the one shoe....it looked flimsy..)
The part that I really liked was how well he listened to what my complaints were for the shoes that I did not like. I would say, "the tongue of the sneaker was hitting me in my ankle and it started to hurt" and he wouldn't bat an eye but just tell me to take off the shoe and lets try another. I also had a complaint because, " the top of this shoe is too tight and it hurts where my injury is" and he quickly got me into a different shoe that had more room at the top. He knew a lot about the products they carried and could counter my complaints with solid information and new styles that helped the specific problem I complained about. I have to say it was impressive. To be hear "top foot pain" and to bring out a shoe that had more room or "the sneakers tongue hurts me" and to know which ones had a softer edge. Those are random complaints!! It was impressive and nice to have all of that time focused on getting me the best shoe for my problem.
I ended up purchasing new sneakers and inserts for the sneakers. I was told that the inserts are really good since normal sneakers do not account for foot shape and needs. I was told that by PT so I did not think it was just them trying to add something else to the bill. I came out with a pair of sneakers and the hope that I could get back into the routine I had to give up so many months ago.
I enjoyed my experience. If anyone is looking for new sneakers then this is the place to go!
