  • Haven't been to the Nautigal in 5 years because we moved away to Chicago. While visiting friends in Madison, my husband and I decided to visit while we were back because we remembered it as being such a charming place ... WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! The place has really gone down hill. The smell of garbage filled the air as we made the walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. Once inside, it was no better. The bathrooms were dirty, the bar sticky, and I watched in abject horror as the bartender poured my wine order in a glass that was coated with a cloudy white film. Because we thought how much worse could it get, we ordered food, where it went from worse to the worst. My husband ordered the Fish Fry. The batter wasn't thoroughly cooked and the entire thing became a mushy mess in short order. Me? I had the seafood salad. I'll leave it right there because just recalling my first bite gives me the dry heaves. The service was okay and by okay, I mean not bad for a bunch of what appeared to be high school kids. I guess it's cheaper to hire people who have no experience? I really wanted to like it, I really did but it's not the place I remember and I don't think we'll be back.
