WQED is how I became a fan of cooking shows. And I still prefer their cooking programming over anything on Food Network.
Put Jacques Pepin up against Bobby Flay, and watch Bobby get Flayed. The cooking marathons with Chris Fennimore are also fun to watch. Lydia's a hoot also.
I mean, it's real people cooking, not blonde airheads who are just there to be ogled. Gimme Julia Childs over Sandra Lee anytime. And yes, she's still very much alive in WQED's alternate universe.
The very best cooking show of all time was "Great Chefs" on which many celebrity chefs from Emeril Lagasse to Michael Lomonaco made their TV debuts.
WQED also airs excellent programs like "Frontline", "POV", "Scientific American" and loads of concerts on late at night. Anything featuring Bill Moyers is must watching for anyone who gives a shit about what's going on in the world.
I also love all those local documentaries from "Wylie Avenue Days" to the great Rick Sebak pieces.
Mr. Rogers was one of my heroes as a kid. I wasn't much for Sesame Street. And you know I lived for Spider-Man's appearances on "The Electric Company". WHISKWAAAA!
There are shows I don't care for, and I can't honestly say that I watch it all the time or as much as I should, but I'm glad WQED is there for me whenever I feel like exercising my grey matter via the boob tube.
