  • I'm writing to reflect my stay at Circus Circus from October 15th-20th, 2017 which was booked as a vacation package through my preferred airline. Prior to arriving, previous reviews on this and other websites had me feeling very nervous as they mentioned bedbugs, robberies and a host of other concerns. While I don't doubt the legitimacy of those claims, some of which have photographic evidence, this was not reflective of my stay. Upon arriving we (I traveled with a friend) were given the option to upgrade as we had unknowingly booked rooms in the manor which is a motel-like structure adjacent to the rest of the hotel. We chose to do this which added an extra $5+ dollars per night to our "resort fee" which totaled about $180+ per guest, per room as my friend and I got separate rooms. I'd expected to pay about $100 so these added fees didn't leave me feeling too great at the very start of my trip especially since many amenities, like the pool, close early or don't exist (ex: fridge or safe.) Added to this was the fact that we were told our room keys had to stay separated from our wallets and phones as this could cause them to deactivate which is not something I have ever heard and made keeping our belongings together a bit more of a hassle than it otherwise would have been. Things, unfortunately, continued to decline from there as we had to walk quite a long ways to get from the lobby to the elevators which normally wouldn't be an issue until you take into account that smoking indoors is still a thing in Vegas so you are walking through clouds of secondhand smoke for what feels like an age. Part of the reason it took so long was due to a broken escalator which remained so for the vast majority of our stay (there may have been more convenient ways to get to our rooms but if there was we were never informed.) Once we got into our rooms the first thing we did was check each mattress for bedbugs, thankfully of which there were none, though one of the mattresses in my room had dirty bedding and an even dirtier bed-skirt. In order to alleviate this problem I called housekeeping who came upstairs within 10 minutes or so and fixed the issue, going so-far as to have me inspect it when she'd finished to ensure there was no other concern. Housekeeping was VERY thorough during our stay, perhaps a bit too much, as they continually replaced all towels despite a notice asking guests to hang up towels to re-use as a way to conserve water which I always did. My only major problem during my stay was the fact that, at no point, was I informed that my room adjoined the room next to me (my friend was across the hall.) When checking in I did notice what I thought was a closet door which, if it followed the same pattern as the deadbolt of the room door, was unlocked but I didn't bother with it as there was no handle on my side. Knowing this was an older hotel I figured it was some sort of defect and left it alone until mid-week when I was awoken by very loud commotion that sounded as though it was coming from within my bedroom. It was at this point that I realized my room was adjoining and I immediately got up to make sure the door was locked. Given the recent tragedy in Las Vegas I'd already been apprehensive about going through with my trip at all and this definitely didn't make me feel better, particularly when I paid extra to stay in a nicer part of the hotel. This also meant my belongings were unprotected for days. Upon checking out I brought this up to a manager, Cheryl, was very apologetic and encouraged me to write to guest relations as my earlier email went unanswered. As of my writing this (10/23) I have not received a response. One thing I do want to mention and give credit for is the increased security present at nearly every casino we visited during our stay, with Circus Circus being no exception. At any given point it seemed we were never more than 20 feet from an armed police officer which went a long way in reassuring any further fears I had especially after the incident in my room. Overall I'd say my stay was pleasant enough especially as this was my first time to Las Vegas and this hotel is cheaper than others. Getting around was easy once we figured out how to use public transit and it was significantly cheaper than other hotels I looked into though I would have preferred less of a labyrinth with a better pool. Final word of warning though, be prepared to spend more than you think given that (seemingly) every hotel in Vegas has resort fees and lacks basic accommodations other hotels have like free breakfast, coffee pots, safes, fridges and microwaves. If you are ill prepared Las Vegas will almost certainly empty your wallet if you're not mindful and/or expect freebies of any kind.
