| - Check-in.
There was only one person at the check-in counter and it was actually brisk, efficient, and impersonal; A total of 10 minutes.
Room 1007.
I had a feeling that because I was staying for one night, I was going to get a room near the elevator. I wish I had that kind of intuition for lottery numbers because lo-and-behold, my room was 4 steps away from the elevator. However, when I opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised at how big and spacious the room was. And the view...the view was amazing. My room was overlooking the David Duncan house and all the trees with their orange and yellow leaves.
No smell so clean. Comfortable large bed, sitting chair, and a nice feature for all the light fixtures are the dangling switches (easy to find and turn on...just pull up or down). I hate having to find that little knob to turn on the lights...details matter.
Amenities include mini-bar, coffee-machine, ONE bathrobe, ironing board and paper and pen and a large flat screen tv. Once again, no slippers (which is something I always forget).
The bathroom was small but clean, and if you have ever been to a Westin hotel, the showers are heavenly. They have two, big, moveable shower heads (as part of their bathroom-spa design) which makes such a big difference. The water pressure is fantastic so if you are ever here for a conference or if you have had a long and hard day, jump in the shower and you will feel great afterwards. Bath products are the Westin's own Spa brand but it smells very nice, like Bulgari's White Tea perfume.
The hair-dryer is a stand alone and it's a professional Con-air. I have to say that this Westin's bathroom is great. I was getting ready for a wedding reception and this bathroom had everything a girl would need to get dolled-up.
Noise Level. NOISY! Since room 1007 was right in front of the elevator, I heard people coming in and out, room service peeps, luggage people, and banging doors. If this is an issue for you (I was only here one night), then do not get this room or other rooms close to 1007.
Extras.
There is a small convenience store beside the elevators, but if you drive, there is a Longo's and Shoppers Drug Mart 2 minutes away. Actually, it really is with walking distance and there is also a Tim Horton's, Licks, Swiss Chalet and McDonald's. You can get all your food/supplies there.
Computer (2) station (free internet) and one that is hooked up to a printer. You do have to pay for internet in the room (unless you are a Gold SPG member).
Great modern bar that is a part of Seasons Restaurant at the Prince.
Outdoor pool and great conference/wedding facilities. Both my friend and aunt had their wedding here.
Parking is free for guests and those attending a conference/wedding. Otherwise, its one of those Green P ticket things.
Conclusion.
My rate for this room at a discount was $165 including relevant taxes and fees which is a great deal (October 8th, 2011). The regular rate for that same week per night was $225/night (not including taxes and fees). After all, it is a Westin. If you are ever in the Yorkmills Leslie area for business, visiting relatives or friends close by, I think this is a great hotel. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and close to major highways.
Hotel Rewards Program.
I think the Starwood Preferred Program is one of the largest programs out there simply because of all the hotels (from Sheraton to St. Regis and everything in between). I currently have the Gold Preferred membership which really doesn't do much except I get late check-out at 4pm (when available) and automatic room upgrade at check-in (again only when available). You also have the ability to earn SPG points faster, but there are many other ways you can earn SPG points (AMEX SPG card as well as other credit cards that can transfer card points into SPG points).
The dollar to SPG point ratio is something confusing as well. For my night stay at The Prince I earned about 270 points. The average Starwood hotel requires at least 10000 points to redeem for one night which means you have to stay at a Starwood hotel a lot. If you travel often, this is not hard to do, and at the end of the day, it never hurts to get the Starwood card. It costs nothing to sign up. For more information, go to www.spg.com.
