  • My husband scheduled an appointment for me to have a cut and highlights done yesterday, as a Mother's Day gift. I was very skeptical about where to go for highlights because I've had bad experiences before. I drove 35 min because of the reviews and was a bit disappointed when the hairdresser, Becky Lilley-Gerblick, told me that my hair was too dark and that because of the prior darker dye in my hair, she would not have time to cut and highlight all of my hair in one session. I was reluctant at first, then Becky told me that she could highlight some of the front, but that she did not want to damage my hair, so I decided to stay. At first, she wasn't sure if the color would take. While I do have dark hair, I only wanted auburn highlights throughout all of my long hair. I did not ask for anything too drastic. Well, three people worked on my hair because she kept leaving to work on other women. My purse and water bottle were moved from one station to another while my hair was getting washed and nobody came over to even ask me if I wanted my purse, or if it was okay to move my stuff to another station. It was a very chaotic environment, for sure. Perhaps because it was a Saturday, so I'm guessing that they may have had an overlap with bookings. Anyway, I do like my cut and there were some highlights around the front of my hair, but nothing like what I had initially wanted. I was told that I would have to come in for longer session to have all of my hair highlighted. I was assuming that this meant that they would not overcharge for the service I received. Well, I got to the cashier and she was absolutely miserable, with a terrible personality. I was charged $207.00, plus a tip, for a wash, haircut (two inches off) and the few strands of auburn on my hair. Of course, my husband was told that it would be $70 for highlights, plus the haircut, which was $65. The cashier proceeds to tell me that $70 is just the starting price and that the stylist decides how much to charge. Becky then comes over and tells me that she actually gave me a discount because she couldn't give me what I wanted and that other stylists there charge less. Well, that is ridiculous, deceptive and unprofessional. Anyway, it's over now, but I urge everyone to ask upfront whether or not a stylist is capable of working on their hair prior to setting an appointment. Also, make sure to ask how much everything will cost, upfront, or you will get ripped off.
