| - Family members and I dined on 08/26/16, party of 4; all courses were good including dessert and the service was good. Wine selection had to be modified after it was discovered that our first selection was out of stock, but not a problem. Dinner choices had to be modified after the first choice for 2 of the 4 diners was not available, but not a problem., At the end of the meal my generous brother and sister in law picked up the check, paid the bill and we departed. As we waited outside the restaurant for our Uber, a member of the restaurant staff (not our server) came outside and accosted us, questioning whether there was a problem with the meal because the amount of money left for the gratuity seemed small. My brother returned inside to the restaurant with the staff member and they discussed. He ultimately added more money to the gratuity to appease the situation and to end the interaction with the aggressive Harvest staff member. So here's the rub - the gratuity that was originally left was nearly 19% of the bill (excluding the tax)! This outrageous action on the part of the restaurant has left a lasting, very unfavorable impression, no question. It really marred what was a fantastic evening with good food and family. I have dined at Harvest multiple times in the past and it has been consistently good but never have I experienced anything like this - the restaurant should be embarrassed! We've contacted the restaurant owner, who is highly regarded in the Madison restaurant scene, and made her aware of what happened. I doubt highly that I or my other family members will ever return to the restaurant - we were gobsmacked by the behavior of the restaurant staff member. Heads up!
