| - The draw of this hotel/casino is the pool, and it really is amazing! The water slide is fun, and fast. The shark tank is really interesting to look at, and the water was clear and clean. The room we had, in the Carson Tower, was adequate. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. I resent the idea of having to BUY K cups (3/$10) if you want a cup of coffee in your room. How tacky! But, that seems to be what the Golden Nugget is all about, getting every last cent they can from you for the basics.
We ate at the buffet and it was pretty bad. If you like Costco desserts and pressed prime rib slabs, I suppose it would have been okay. The waitress was nice, and she was empathetic to the raw blintzes, oil soaked tater tots, and undercooked sausage. The coffee was good.
My biggest gripe was the fact that I complained several times to the managers about the activity on our floor and nothing was done about it. There was a pot smoking bicycle club staying at the hotel for a convention, and many of them were on our floor. Our floor, was supposed to be NON SMOKING. I guess marijuana doesn't count, as the air was thick with it. I heard the housekeepers complaining about it, as well. Also, the bikes were moved from the lobby to the rooms over and over, so you couldn't get in the elevator to get to your room. I went to the lobby and mentioned this TWICE. Nothing was done. I suppose the cherry on the top of the cake was when I returned to my room early Sunday morning, to find a long line of vomit running down the hall. I called the front desk to report it, but nothing was done because the next morning,It was still there, just sunk into the carpet somewhat. I wanted to love this place. I love the feel of the old glamour. However, it's just kind of dumpy.
