  • I'm a total fan of Jose Andres restaurants, but I have to honestly say that Jaleo was kinda disappointing. This was not the best and does not compare to his others like China Pablano or Bazaar both food and experience wise. The tasting menu offered about 9 or 10 dishes to try, the most impressive thing was the very first. It was an appetizer of a special toast with fresh tomato spread, not tomatoe chunks, but a spread. It was so crispy, and not the "scratch the roof of your mouth" kind of crispy, and light. I would come back just to have this bruschetta for breakfast! I liked the cheese and 18 month old prosciutto pairing, would've been perfect with a few olives. The chilled apple soup was also nice, refreshing like gazpacho. The other dishes lacked flavor and some portions were too big to carry on with. The calamari and paella seemed to be served in full portions. It was practically enough for 3-4 people for a tasting menu. I hate to waste food. The cauliflower with olives and dates were fantastic, but I do wish our server had suggested us to eat them all in one bite. I steered away from pairing a date with cauliflower and olive, but eventually brought myself to try it. Had our server suggested it, I would've done it instantly. Sometimes it's nice to be explained how to eat such peculiar pairings in a dish. The quality of the food was on the table, I really liked the quail, but the flavor was not. The service could've been better overall on keeping a better eye on our table and cleaning it. They didn't change our plates until halfway through the meal and they were already pretty dirty after three dishes. The non-alcoholic drinks took a while/felt forgotten. I wouldn't come back unless it's for their bruschetta.
