| - For Valentine's Day, I wanted to surprise my girl with one of their "high teas" that they do. Unfortunately, what they don't mention in any of the pamphlets is that it's a weekday thing, so that wasn't going to work. You'd kind of think they would have done something for the day, but no such luck.
Still, the woman on the phone offered that perhaps I try their restaurant instead, so I booked a reservation... just in case. It wasn't full at lunchtime, but you never can tell how Valentine's Day restaurant bookings will go, and I didn't want to sleep on the couch tonight.
We came in, and were promptly seated in their sun room. The waitress was really friendly, good humored, and conversational every time she stopped by, but never imposed.
The food was good. Soup and sandwich and breakfast fare, and I was very pleased by the quality of the food. Decent price, respectable portions, good flavor. I left feeling full, but not overly stuffed.
The waitress quickly came with the check, gave us some candy while wishing us "Happy Valentine's", and gave a pretty compelling discussion on art as she rang me up. That's not something you get every day.
The hotel itself looks nice for a couple's weekend outing. Perhaps some time in the future, but all I know is that they serve a Monte Cristo sandwich there, and you'd better believe that I'm going to go back to sample that.
