  • I wanted to give this place a try after my friend had a good experience with the stylist and decided to buy a Groupon for my first try. I showed up waiting 15 min for my appointment with Deana. I requested a layered look. She took me to wash my hair and my neck was cramped from the hard ceramic sink and she left me, luckily with a neck roll, for the hair conditioning. She returned after ~10 min and I smelled cigarette smoke on her hands. Throughout my cut, I smelled the smoke and would've appreciated it if there was gum or hand-washing before she returned to touch my hair. The black gowns are barely waterproof and my wet hair soaked through the gown and soaked my cardigan. When I requested a towel to soak up my cardigan, she swapped out the gown and I continued to sit there in a cold wet cardigan while with a cold. Towards the end of the 45 min (for which I was scheduled for 1 hour), the dark-haired receptionist interrupted twice to remind Deana that the next client was here, which I don't know how it wouldn't rush a stylist to hurry up. When I went to check out, I tried to present the Groupon and was told by the same dark-haired receptionist that it was unable to be accepted and that it was only for basic designers and not senior designers. Sorry, I didn't know there was a difference in levels (never been asked what level I wanted and been told there was a difference in prices) was charged $48 for a master designer level, $6 more than what she was listed for on the website, $42 for a senior designer. When I mentioned that my dry-clean cardigan was soaking wet, the receptionist responded that it was just water and not chemicals. Then proceeded to repeat that again when I remained silent and told her that I wasn't interested in getting in an argument. Getting to the root of the problem as well, my layered look was not great. I've requested a layered cut for over 10 years now and never been as disappointed as this day. The layers are uneven, the front locks are longer than the back locks in the front. The hair was not "thinned out" as much I wanted. I was rushed out of there when the appointment was started late. I left very disappointed. At least Groupon was able to refund me the deal. So to sum up the experience: - surprise charges - rude front desk receptionist who interrupts your hair appointment to rush your stylist (seems like every other post is about this and my friend also mentioned this) - overpriced charges for sub-par work -- isn't the layered look a more basic haircut? - clean environment/floor but stylist smelled of smoke in her hands and the gown is not water proof, so maybe wear a waterproof jacket under this so your clothes don't get wet The Colorist Bar and Salon offers a paraffin hand wax and is a much more pleasant experience, not perfect, but scores above this salon. Update: I did call to inquire about the charge difference and the inaccurate website and luckily was able to get the $6 refunded. It required 4 phone calls returned but it did happen, so that's a redeeming factor.
