It drives me nuts that I have lived in Cleveland for most of my life, but was unaware of this gem until Anthony Bourdain came here and featured it on his show. Now, I try to get there at least once a month to satisfy my enthusiasm for sausage. The kielbasa (and the special edition HK holiday kielbasa) are pretty much superior to just about anything out there, but I feel that the bratwursts are where the Sausage Shoppe really shines. I cannot enter the place without picking up some of their White Brats (weisswurst), and the Maple Brats are very nearly the best thing I have EVER put in my mouth. The hickory smoked bacon is excellent, and I will no longer accept any substitutes. I don't know if it is the lack of nitrates, etc. in the bacon, but I have found that it doesn't seem to burn as easily as the usual store bought varieties. The staff at the sausage shoppe are very friendly, and they usually run convenient specials such as an 8-pack of buns free with 8 links, or a bag of kraut with a lb. of kielbasa. I love this place, here's to 71 more years!
