It is a novel idea to have an island themed restaurant in Phoenix that serves up your Hawaiian inspired meals! The menu has many options that should suit all dietary preferences including sandwiches/burgers, Hawaiian style plate lunches and fish creations. I always go for a fish entree, where you choose your fish type and preparation style, and have never been dissatisfied.
This evening I chose the market fish (snapper for $16) in the blackened prep style with wasabi mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The fish was deliciously spicy with a cooling wasabi cream sauce served on top! The wasabi potatoes were good but nothing spectacular and the vegetables did not exceed expectations but at least had a mild soy sauce glaze drizzle. The service was attentive but slightly pushy to move us out.
Overall my experience here continues to consist of great tasty food and forgettable service. It is the menu that brings me back every time and I would recommend Hulas for a casual date night or dinner and drinks with friends.
