| - Despite being named after James Bond's cocktail in Casino Royale, the Vesper Bar was a stark contrast to the excitement of a fast-paced 007 adventure - everything was very...very...slow.
Despite sitting at the bar right in front of where the bartender was walking back and forth, it took an extremely long time to be acknowledged and to receive a cocktail menu. And later, once we were ready to order, it again took a very long time to be acknowledged again to place our drink orders. This may have been more expected if the bar was completely packed, but it was far from it - laid back and calm - with maybe a couple other small parties of two. There were tables surrounding the bar as well, but these were not even all occupied by customers; some were just people sitting and resting in the chairs without ordering.
The menu itself consists of about a dozen cocktails, half being more classic and the other half being Vesper-style interpretations. There's a small list of beer and extensive list of wine. I ordered the Catalina Wine Mixer - one of the Vesper interpretations - because why wouldn't I want to try a prosecco gummy bear? The drink itself was good and visually impressive - it came with a straw "just for looks" (the bartender recommended not actually using it) - and was topped with a light foam and with the gummy bear carefully positioned on a stick. However, at already $16 a cocktail, was it worth the time invested also? Not particularly, at least in my opinion.
So what should have been a quick cocktail at a gorgeous bar ended up taking an unnecessarily long time - a shame since there were other cocktails I wanted to try on the menu, but that would've meant more time waiting...and time is money and both money and time are precious in Vegas!
