| - We were excited when we booked the Mercedes CLA and I was looking forward to driving it again. I had it previously at another rental company. When we arrived there was one other person in front of me in the regular line up and 2 people in the platinum lineup with 3 agents. The platinum line up got served first and it took about 40 mins before I got to the service counter. They told us the Mercedes was not available because they were all sent back to the dealer due to a safety recall. Disappointment #1. They said we can upgrade to the next level and there were 2 BMW 3 series to choose from, the grey or the white. We opted for the white. We got the luggage in the trunk and got inside. It was filthy! I wasn't even clean, food stains all over the place, dash full of dirt and dust. We went back to show the greeter (bald man, older) and he saw it and said it looked like it didn't even get clean. Disappointed again, #2. We went back inside and they gave us the grey BMW. This car was dirty inside as well but a bit better than the white one. Disappointment #3. By this time it's about 1:30 (I arrived there around 11:30) and we were so hungry we just wanted to leave so took the car anyways. They gave us 15% off for the dirty cars. Fine we are in our way so thought that was the end of it.
About an hour into our drive from Las Vegas to California our GPS dies, why? It's because the cigarette adaptor didn't work. Left with no GPS we called and were told to go to LAX to exchange the vehicle or to Santa Monica location but the Santa Monica location closed at 7 pm. We finally make it to Westminster at 6:30 pm to meet some family for dinner, after that checked into our hotel at 9 pm. At 9:30 we took the 40 min drive from Anaheim to the LAX airport. Talk about inconvenience. We get there at 10:15 and find out they don't have anything in the same category as our upgrade so we had a choice between downgrading back to the previous level and going with the Volvo 660 or upgrading again and paying for it.
Well by this point I was tired and frustrated but still calm and friendly surprisingly. We talked to the lady helping us and explained the situation, she talked to the manager and came back and said there was nothing else. We stood there and this time with my husband and reiterated the ordeal we went through today with SIXT car rental. She talked to her manager again and came back and said that they can give us the Volvo XC60, which we had to take cause there was no other option. The car was a bit dirty but much better than the BMWs. I just get a sense they don't clean their cars.
We tested the cigarette adaptor and our GPS worked so that confirmed to me the BMW had a malfunction. We had to make the 40 min trip back to our hotel and by the time we got back it was 11:20 pm.
We pretty much spent a good 3.5 hours (at least) of our vacation time dealing with this rental ordeal. Time, money (extra gas for the trips), using our phone plan data for navigation, being on the phone with the manager at the Las Vegas location, and the agent on the rental line, not getting the car we really wanted which was the Mercedes, dirty vehicles, are some of the challenges we had to name a few.
And I just want to mention I have the rental till this Sunday April 30, so it's a six day rental for us.
