I have been going to Austin's since the Texas Station opened (1995) and generally have had a wonderful experience. The staff is professional/courteous and always wanting to please. I have not been here for a good 9-11 months so it had been some time. We decided to go Saturday evening around 8:30pm and was quite surprised as there were only 3 tables seated for a holiday weekend. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was very good and the chop salad which was horrible. It was all dressing and no greens and we sent it back. Then we ordered the bone on ribeye ($53) which Scott our waiter highly recommended and 2 side dishes. The steak was I thought old or something wrong with the quality of the beef. I had asked Scott to smell it as it had a very nauseous odor to it. I did taste it which was not a normal taste or flavor. Scott said it was the seasoning that gave it the smell. He asked if I wanted to have it sent back and I said no so he was fully accommodating to our needs. I did ask how long the chef has been there which he stated for about a year so obviously the direction that Austin's is heading is not within our tastes. I would hate to see this restaurant close as it's been there from the beginning but if the direction of the food quality doesn't change it will be in a past tense as there are so many new great places opening up to dine.
