| - I had to threaten to call the police to get the keys to MY OWN CAR back. Here's the back story..
I went in to look at a new Veloster about a year ago with little intention of buying that day unless a really good deal popped up. I got annoyed immediately because a salesman walked in front of my car with his hand out while I was driving so I had to quickly stop to not run him over. That really bugged me but I let him show me around anyway.
We test drove a car and he filled my head full of lies that I kept shooting down continuously saying, "I'm not an idiot, I know that's not true.." and so on. He finally calmed down with all the BS.
I told him I loved the car but I also love my current car and wouldn't budge from it without a really good price. They offered me a great price for my trade in at $19,000.
He started running numbers and I told him they weren't good enough, he went back, brought back more numbers, etc. Finally we got to a good price. I asked him how much money I would be financing TOTAL and he gave me a number. I asked him how it was possible cause it seems really good and he said they really want my car cause it's uncommon and there's all these incentives on the new car n whatever.
I asked him a few more times he was sure that the price on the paper is what I was financing. He said yes so I shook his hand, rang the bell, signed over my current car, etc. It was a good time!
I get into the finance room and find out I will be financing about 6,000 more than he showed me. I got a little bugged.. asked what was going on.. they told me he must have been confused but I should just sign and it's all good. I was like, "No, he told me this was the price.. I'm not paying anything else." They called him in and he was a complete a-hole and denied it then they sent him out. I pointed out the paper he had written a number on and they repeated that he must have just gotten confused. They assured me it was no big deal and it's still a great price and that I should sign.
I told them no thank you and said that I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money. They just stared at me and said something about how the deal was already in motion and I wouldn't want to waste the poor salesmen's time. I said that I was sorry but I want out and I would like my keys back. They repeated about wasting his time and how messed up that was, something about 2 hours of his day, whatever. I told them I wanted my keys back, now.
They had a few people in the room at this point, all standing over me, and informed me that I could not have my keys back because I had signed my car away. I immediately said, "OK, well then write me a check for 19,000 dollars." They looked extremely confused and said it didn't work that way and that was the trade in price for if I was buying a car. I told them I wanted a check for 19k or my keys, immediately. They refused and tried to get me to buy the car.
After 10 or so minutes of trying to get my car keys back, I snapped and told them I was going to call the police if they didn't give me my keys right now. I pulled out my phone and started to dial. The finance guy said "You're free to get your keys, they are at the front desk. Just go tell the front you want your keys and they will talk to you."
I went to the front, jumped half way over their desk, grabbed my keys and left.
I will never go to a car dealership as a single female again. Sorry, Henderson Hyundai, but even three men standing over me in a tiny room isn't enough to force me into signing your BS rip-off contract!! I'm glad I wasted your time!
