I was dragged kicking, screaming and bound up to this insipid place, at least in my head. I was in a group who acquiesced to visit this "gum drop" inspired totem poles. A public spectacle and nothing short of sh#t on a shingle. The idea was infantile but the execution required considerable engineering prowess and determination.
Not unlike Las Vegas this installation was American kitch at it's best or worst depending on your point of view. Was Thomas Kincaid an artist? Not according to Christie's auction house in New York and neither was this.
The artist is swiss, but only in America is this possible. It appears to be wildly popular with the masses, like lemmings following the social media pipers; Hordes of people were proudly posing their pride of association with these objects, by being photographed with the them. These photos no doubt end up on the web creating more interest, like a bad virulent flu virus. Not all that glitters is gold nor is throwing a few bright colors on some sticks, art. A sad commentary of our times.
