| - My wife and I just enjoyed a wonderful dinner here at Lon's. Their menu for Arizona Restaurant Week looked enticing; since I have greatly enjoyed eating at Lon's before, we decided to go tonight. Dined at sunset on the patio; peaceful and relaxing.
We started off with the tasty house margarita, and a potpourri of breads (including slices of Mesquite sourdough from Noble Bakery).
For the three course dinner, we began with the crab stuffed squash blossom - served with a cucumber gazpacho and the Abbey Lee heirloom tomatoes with Crow's Dairy goat cheese curd, herb salad, Noble (bakery) croutons, with a white and red balsamic. Both appetizers were fabulous -
Next, we both decided to each order the Alaskan halibut entree, served with a Meyer lemon foam, pea puree, snap peas, baby carrots, ?shitake mushrooms and other young mushrooms along with spring onions. The halibut was perfectly cooked, with a moist interior; the vegetables along with the lemon foam were a perfect match. (other entrees for this week include roasted Petaluma chicken with cheddar mashed potatoes and brocollin, or a dry aged Duroc pork chop with purple barley rissoto, pickled peach chicaron salad and romesco sauce)
Finishing off, we chose the Meyer lemon cheesecake served with lemon curd and blueberry gelato and the Schnepf farms peach crostata topped with salted caramel ice cream and streusel. Both were outstanding - this is indeed the prime season for the Schnepf farm peaches.
As always, service was impeccable, always attentive, never intrusive. Water glasses were kept full, plates promptly cleared, second round of bread service readily brought, and each course brought out at perfect serving temperature.
After dinner, we strolled around the beautiful gardened grounds and enjoyed the art work of Lon Megargee displayed on the walls of the main restaurant. (This was once his residence: he is best known for his "The Last Drop From His Stetson" which is still used today in the lining of many Stetson western hats)
If you want a great AZ Restaurant Week meal, with impeccable service in a fabulous location, definitely consider Lon's at the Hermosa Inn. Even if you come another time, Lon's is an Arizona classic. The casitas at the Hermosa Inn are also a wonderful place to stay.
(sorry that I forgot to take pictures of each dish, we were enjoying them so much to the final crumb that I never snapped a shot!)
