| - Another cocktail bar in another hidden location, Montreal is now filled with not-so-hidden hidden bars with long line-ups on weekends filled with very different crowd:
- a few low-key hispters who come here for the bar men (yes, they're awesome and and yes, they make drinks the "4eme Mur"way!).
- Big group of suburb party goers who order shots and dance around the bar ( Not a problem for me except that our waitress is overwhelmed by them so we get less service since we don't drink fast enough and yell loud enough. )
- Finally, some tourists who believe that this is really special (when instead they should know that montreal also have 4eme mur, Le mal neccessaire, Cloakroom, No Name Bar, Big in Japan...)
Ok, let's judge this place without thinking about the aspect of 'speakeasy', that's not so 'special' anymore in this city: It's a low-rent no-window basement that used to be a part of 'La Bell Province' poutine shop. They charge $35 for a steak and $12-14 for a very small cocktail. If you are a tourist, why would you NOT enjoy a nice drink and an awesome steak at the top floor of a 5 star hotel or Les Enfants Terribles of Place Ville Marie with more attentive service and a window that gives you the view of an entire Montreal for the same price?
But if you do go, and i think you still should, on a quieter night, do try one of the smoky cocktails, they're really impressive!
