| - These guys are awesome. Recently got in a minor accident and did not have collision on the car, so cost was a sensitive issue. Additionally, since the car was older, spending too much money on it didn't really make a ton of sense. The car still drove properly, and did not appear to be leaking or making unusual noises, but had sustained fairly major damage to the front. I just wanted to do what was needed to get everything mechanically sound, and nothing more. Most of the body shops I took my car to were focused only on themselves and what they'd be willing to put their name on. Many said they wouldn't be willing to do what I was asking, which is stupid, considering they're not the customer. One shop's quote was over 2/3 of what I'd paid for the car!
This is where Phoenix Body Works gets things right. I sat down with Matt and explained my dilemma to him -- it wasn't financially prudent to replace absolutely everything, or use OEM parts, and I didn't care if the car looked perfect when the work was done. He respected my needs and was straightforward with me. This being a common car, aftermarket parts would be cheapest and work just fine (except for a couple safety pieces which he recommended I get OEM), some of the damaged pieces (grille, bumper) served no mechanical purpose and didn't really NEED to be replaced, and if cost was a difficulty, I didn't really need any of the car painted either. When he put together this estimate, I felt for the first time (after visiting several other shops) like it was doable and affordable.
He was great in communicating with me about what my options were, when the parts would arrive, and when they were able to remove the hood and found additional damage, he called me immediately before proceeding, and explained exactly what he'd found and what it would cost (ended up only being $150-200 more). The shop fixed my car in only a day, and everything fit and worked nicely when I got it back. Matt went over every repair that had been made, was very patient with me, and said I could call him if anything wasn't working properly (two and a half months later and it's all performed great). He even cut me a small break on labor prices since I was paying out of pocket.
Even if you aren't paying out of pocket and know insurance will cover it, I strongly recommend these guys for their open and proactive communication, and making sure that I (as the customer) knew exactly what was going on with the car -- what parts were being replaced, how and why, etc. I never had a doubt that I'd end up with exactly what I'd asked for, and the car's been a dream ever since.
