| - There are times when a place isn't perfect and that's why it's five stars. FilmBar is imperfect perfection. Everything about this place screams "I'm so awesome and I don't care what you think, because being unique isn't perfection, it's being awesome at who or what you are." FilmBar is a low key indie theater that screams "Im here, love me and love being here for the experience!" My wife and I called FilmBar and a genuine super kind and helpful FilmBar employee answered each and every question we had and it was like talking to that really hip friend that everyone loves. I had this hipster on speaker phone and my wife and I spent 15-20 minutes that he kindly gave us and made sure that we had an exact answer to each of our questions. From the phone
call we were able to ascertain that they had some craft Beers on tap, select wines, soft drinks, candy and oh yes, fresh tamales. We learned that it was totally cool to bring your own food to the theater if you were so inclined, ROCK ON, how cool is that? I then asked if they have parking or if we had to pay and yes, even though it was downtown, they have their own parking and it's free, as well as right next to the theater and is for FilmBar patrons only. I asked our helpful hipster instafriend if there were any good restaurants close by and received more than 7 recommendations that were within a stones throw from FilmBar! What kind of theater tells you that you don't have to purchase any food from them and then tells you where to find great food to bring into their establishment? He told us that there was still room for their 7:30 showing and then proceeded to give us a rundown of what the film was about (No spoiler alerts) because he didn't want us to waste money on a movie that didn't appeal to us!? I love FilmBar! My wife and I stopped at a New Mexican restaurant called Habanero's and it was awesome (will Yelp that next). We took the food to FilmBar and were greeted by a super sweet bartender that helped us with our ticket purchase, soft drinks and even gave us forks for the food we brought. The theater is small and my wife and I were five minutes late, so we couldn't see what we were doing. Eating was difficult (but that's our fault, as they have high top tables and reclining chairs with trays in the back of the theater we didn't know about until after the movie was over). Yes the theater is small with older seats and Peavey speakers on chairs close to the screen and the sound was awesome, so much for THX! I love Indie films that aren't full of lame explosions and massive amounts of CGI, it's so refreshing to watch a film that has a cool storyline that keeps things real, bringing reality back to films!!! The bar had a couple of people sitting at it and the decor is shabby contemporary sheek. I love the vibe here, it's a friendly all are welcome vibe. I watched as everyone picked up their own trash and showed respect for the place after the movie was over, not happening at any chain theater. The quote by Brittany Spears says it all on the Marquee of FilmBar, check out my pictures if you want to see more. The most important thing, take the time to experience FilmBar, it's more than a theater and drinks, it's an experience in awesomeness.
