| - Another stop on my Indie Coffee Passport and another great new discovery! The space is airy and minimalist, with a gallery feel. I had a cappuccino, which was artfully done, super-smooth, and rich with flavour. They have pitchers of lemon water on each floor, which is a nice touch. I also had a chicken and brie panini ($9). It had a nice pesto spread and the bread they use is really soft and fresh. Prices are slightly higher than other places I've visited using the Coffee Passport.
I sat downstairs, read a book, and enjoyed the comfy and fuzzy pillows they have lining the bench. Most of the other people were on laptops, although there was a job interview/artist's collaboration meeting going on a few tables over. They have some shelves of newspapers and magazines in the basement.
Staff brought the panini down to my table and came down frequently to check up and clean tables. The guy who served me was a bearded hipster, but the other staff person was a woman in a little black dress and thigh high boots scurrying around... kind of unusual attire for a weekday afternoon, but whatevs. Service was fine, kind of indifferent -- this is Yorkville after all. I felt a bit weird when they took away my plate and almost empty mug, because then I was just sitting there with a glass of water, looking like I didn't buy anything... I felt like they were trying to get me to leave, although there were tons of empty tables... (-1 star).
Music was a pleasing mix of Beirut and Deerhunter.
It appears that they host some occasional lectures or other events. There is a lecture on Vermeer coming up and they had some posters for it.
