| - My husband and I ventured out to AZ to meet up with some friends so we decided to stay here. It was a pretty good deal and in the area we wanted to stay in, why not?
Upon our arrival, the hotel looked very nice. Small, across the street from a few shops. It seemed pretty ideal. We walked into the lobby which was large, slightly decorated for the holidays with a dried up fountain. As we stepped up to the desk to check in, we couldn't see anyone around, then noticed a woman sitting in a side room just off the front desk area who was very busy with something on her tablet. Only after a minute or so she finally acknowledged us and came to the front desk. Now mind you, it was about 2:51 at the time, check in was 3 p.m. but we figured, 9 minutes...we should be fine.
She then says that she needs to see if there's a room ready. Um, alright. That's fine. She disappears down the hall while we wait....and wait. Several minutes pass and there is someone else waiting to check in as well. She comes back and says our room is ready and begins to get us checked in. Then she disappears a second time.... When she comes back she reminds us that it's a non-smoking hotel and that if we light up, it will be one VERY expensive cigarette. We're non-smokers anyway, but thanks for telling us? We were given our room keys (finally) and off we went.
We booked the Executive Suite which was located on the 1st floor (?). Once we got into the room, we were overwhelmed with some strange smell. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but it wasn't pleasant by any means, yet they were concerned that we would light up a cigarette in there, which, to be honest, would've smelled better.
The room was mediocre at best. The bedroom was separate from the living/kitchen/bath area. It was spacious and seemed relatively updated. The bed was insanely uncomfortable and you could hear the constant on/off buzzing of the ac/heat unit upstairs. We probably had the worst nights sleep ever. Basically, this was just a really expensive way to watch some HGTV.
If we ever had a reason to go back to Fountain Hills, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be staying here.
