  • Lucky me! The fabulous Natalie G. invited me to join her for a free tasting and I gladly obliged. She had recently had a not so great experience and the owners were kind enough to invite her back for another try...on them. And I get to go along? Awesome! To be honest, I had never even heard of this place before my visit. I thought it was kind of hard to find (it's actually back behind Main Street), but I love that there's a free parking garage right underneath the building. Perfect for the steamy summer months. The decor inside is really not anything impressive. There's a strange hodgepodge of wine-related items for sale: bedazzled t-shirts, gift bags for wine bottles, etc. I get that they're trying to make a few extra bucks, but in my opinion it looks a little tacky. Not much of an ambiance to go along with the tasty wine. Our experience, on the other hand, was quite pleasant. Our server seemed fairly knowledgeable on the wines (I know nothing except how to drink it) and was super friendly. We each got a free tasting (5 wine samples) and shared the caprese (also free!). Everything was super delicious. Now, I am not much of a wine connoisseur, but if I could give Su Vino a rating based solely on the taste of their wines they would easily get five stars. The wines I tried were absolutely delicious. I tend to order a glass of riesling wherever I go (I told you...I'm not a wine expert) and they had so many light, sweet wines to choose from. I started with the Gewurztraminer (it was decent, but definitely my least favorite of those that I tried)and then moved on to the Summer Rain which had the most amazing green apple scent and flavor (we both purchased a bottle to take home). Because I love my sweet wines I tried the Peachy Keen and the Blue Breeze next. Both were so refreshing and amazing. I could have bought bottles of each of those as well. My last choice was the Ruby which was also light and fruity. I really liked all of them, but the Summer Refreshments were by far my favorites. Unfortunately, a few days after leaving the restaurant, after checking my bank account, I found that the wrong amount had been charged to my card. I had only purchased the one bottle of wine and left my tip in cash, yet there was an extra $7.20 placed on my card. Hmmmm. I decided to give them a call and was put in communication with Kathy. She was very nice, but was not very apologetic. She did admit that someone must have accidentally put in the wrong amount when entering the credit card statements. Before finding the proof in their system she did seem to have a little bit of difficulty believing that I had been charged the wrong amount. It was also a little annoying to have to spend my afternoon making and receiving phone calls (I believe 4 or 5 in total) fixing the situation. But hey, I got back my $7.20 and am going to buy myself a sandwich or something. Like I said, I really liked my wine, but it seems like Su Vino still has a few kinks to work out. Hopefully I'll be back to give it another try someday. Oh...one more thing...their website is a bit of a mess and desperately needs some TLC.
