| - Yes, this place has a great beer selection. But yes, it is overpriced even for the good beer selection.
Stopped in to get a beer, at the recommendation of a friend. Beer selection was great but before even noticing that, heard bartender complaining that it looks like she isn't getting out anytime soon and she wishes everyone would just leave. I get it. I've been there. but hopefully I didn't say it loudly in front of customers...REPEATEDLY. Seriously, she commented no fewer than four times how she wasn't going home anytime soon now, how she would be here 600 hours more than she wanted to, how she wishes they would just lock the doors so no one else could come in, etc. she was saying this to fellow bartenders who, to their credit, kind of just gave her the, "yeah i know now please go work" kind of response.
And it's not just that she was that annoying attention-wanting complainer who most of us have worked with before, but she wasn't doing her job. she was largely ignoring the customers, who could hear her complaining, and when she did come over, she was like, so do you know what you want or not? umm, hello to you, too, and yes a list would be great, and so would a smile, btw.
but pretend one of the nice bartenders had served us instead. :) i ordered a beer without asking the price (bad on me, I know) and when the bill came: 10.50. ok, i know beer can be expensive, but this is the same beer that in boston is maybe 7. so why is it more in this bar in pittsburgh? by a lot? when I said to the grump (why, i don't know), that it was more expensive than i expected (or something annoying, I know), she said, yeah honey, retail mark-up. boo on you.
Later in my trip i saw the same beer at Sienna Mercato--a much nicer place, btw-- for 7.50. That is $3 less. THREE DOLLARS! Thirty percent less two doors down? anyway, overall there was a good beer selection and it did seem to be open late with a good crowd, but I'm guessing there are other places to go that would have better service and prices.
