| - Ok, yes, this is a quaint little boutique hotel in the middle of DT Toronto and it's pretty close to everything. Yes, in comparison to nearby hotels it's pretty reasonably priced. But, let me tell you if you're accustomed to staying in major hotel brands you might be a bit put off by this place.
So, I love staying in boutique hotels. The upside is that the staff is usually more chill and the hotels are usually (for the most part) pretty cool. Like, the fact that it's not the same Marriott or Hilton means they can add some local charm to it. The downside is that sometimes, it's a crapshoot because you don't have the consistency and "corporateness" of major hotel brands. I say that because I didn't experience any of the cool things about staying at a boutique hotel at Hotel Victoria. This basically felt like a place to make pitstops, bathe, and sleep in between being out and about. Now, I know when you're on vacation most people will say, "Yes, but shouldn't you be out and about instead of in the hotel room all day?" YES! I'm one of those people that will say that. But, there was something about this place where I couldn't relax when I was in the room.
The bed was squeaky so every time one of us turned the other could hear and feel it. The bed was advertised as a Standard Queen but it for sure was a Full so we were pretty much on top of each other. Our view was a brick wall that seemed like it never ended so we never had a concept of the outside weather. There's just one elevator so, there's that. And, our room was incredibly small. I felt like we were working at a restaurant because we kept having to yell, "BEHIND!" just to maneuver around to get dressed. Oh, and the staff was ok. The girl that helped us check out was pretty friendly. There were a couple of guys there that seemed like they haaaaated working there. There's no restaurant in the hotel, so no room service, but you're in DT TO so you shouldn't have a problem finding food.
But, they had a newly renovated lobby. Which, I'll never understand why hotels advertise that as a selling point. Can I set up in the lobby? No? Ok, then why tell me the area of the hotel that I'll spend a total of 30 minutes for my entire trip is newly renovated?
I wouldn't call it a dump, but, I'll definitely budget more and stay somewhere else next time.
