| - Let me start out with attending this event took me out of my comfort zone, in a good way. I've always wanted to try "real" Ramen, but to be honest I was so intimidated by the menu and different options. So thank you Strings Ramen & Yelp for allowing me to experience all of the wonderful dishes.
This event was a true foodie experience. Starting with the appetizers we tried the Edamame, Spicey Menma (bamboo shoot), and Sriracha Broccoli w/ Bacon Bits. All three appetizers were a perfect shareable size, and equally delicious. Sui Gyoza soon followed, we tried the pork and shrimp. These were by far the best dumplings I have ever tried. I would order the shrimp ones again in a heartbeat.
While we were eating the appetizers and dumplings Giles the assistant manager walked us through the menu, and each dish. He did a fantastic job of taking the intimidation way from ordering off the menu. It's people like him that truly make restaurants like this shine. As a ramen newbie, I couldn't thank him enough.
Next came the Donburi which is their sashimi over rice dishes. We passed around the Spicy Crab, Spicy Scallops & Uni (urchin), and Ikura Don (salmon roe - fish eggs). Each dish was beautifully plated. Almost too perfect to eat. I felt most comfortable eating the spicy crab (which was incredible), but again I wanted to get out of my comfort zone so I gave the Ikura Don and Uni a try. Those were two dishes I would have never ordered (ever) but I am so glad I tried them. They were nothing like I imagined, very delicate, not fishy, but unique in flavor all at the same time.
Giles then took us over to the kitchen and described how the 3 broths were made, how they cooked the noodles, the fresh ingredients, and the average time for each bowl to be made. This was very informative, and again made my dining experience much more enjoyable.
Now it came time to order our ramen bowls. After debating between the a few bowls I ended up choosing the Spicy Crab Miso Ramen that was recommended by Giles. Perfect choice too because it was absolutely delicious. When it arrived at our table, I thought to my self how the heck am I going to finish this bowl. It was huge, I mean HUGE. All the flavors worked perfectly together, the noodles were cooked al dente, which worked perfectly with this dish. The broth wasn't too heavy but packed a ton of flavor. You could tell the crab meat was fresh, and added the perfect finish to the dish.
We finished the meal off with mochi ice cream. They had red bean and green tea. To continue on my new food experience I tried the red bean. It was good, I wouldn't say great. The flavor is very hard to describe, but it was sweet like ice cream should be.
Lastly I would like to thank Strings Ramen, Giles and the servers, as well as Yelp (Stacey) for hosting such a wonderful event. This might just be my favorite event yet!
