Very sad to have to write a negative review on the Nevada S.P.C.A, but just so other potential animal parents are informed: I adopted a senior maltipoo from the SPCA about a week ago, spoke with the manager (Dwayne) regarding his health because he is 11 years old before adoption, and he said they found no health issues with him besides being a little overweight. I asked multiple times (he seemed well informed) and it seemed like they vet check, groom, and take care of the animals while in the shelter but with my Titus it seems that wasn't the case. Using the free vet check-up, I took him to the Sunset/Eastern animal hospital to find out he has HORRIBLE pre-existing ear infections in both ears that the vet said had been there for months. His whole canal is clogged with black infection and his inner ears are swollen shut, with possible damage to the ear drum. I'm a first time dog owner, so had I previously known to look inside his ears for black crud I would have OBVIOUSLY seen the infection. Trained professions at the shelter could not have missed this. The fact that I was not informed and he was not treated for this painful infection is very sad. He rubs his ears on the carpet and itches them a lot, I don't know how these symptoms were missed. He was at the shelter for about a month. I called the shelter and all I received was excuses. Very disappointing to see this negligence.
