| - If you're planning to visit Carowinds and need a cheap hotel that is close to the park, this is the place you want to be.
Even for a holiday weekend, the rate was $54 a night (standard weekend rate) via making the reservation online. The hotel itself sits behind a Texaco gas station and is near a Shoney's so there is easy access to food and gas for your trip. You make a left at the stoplight for the highway and drive about 500 feet to the next stoplight to turn into the Carowinds entrance, it's that close.
The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and made sure I was all set up. I had requested a non-smoking room and I was put in one, no problems there. The room I took (1 king size bed) is your basic hotel room with a bed, bathroom, wardrobe, and cable TV. Everything was very clean and looked well maintained. Wi-Fi is available for $3 a day, you go down to the front desk to buy an access code from them. There is a pool and laundry facilities are available on-site.
I had no problems with noise or anything else from guests. The only snag I ran into was trying to order a pizza delivery. The business had just started leaving menus at the hotel and it turns out that the hotel address used to be Carowinds Blvd, but has recently changed to something else. The new address is reflected on the business card at the front desk so just use that to help you out in case the business has an issue with your address. However, I get the feeling that if a place has been delivering to this hotel for a while, they know where it's at if you tell them you're at the one near Carowinds.
This will be the first hotel I look at the next time I visit Carowinds, or if I am out in the Charlotte area for other reasons.
