  • Went for a hike Sunday a little after 9am the end of April. It was warm/hot and a hat was most def helpful in keeping the sun off my face. Getting there from Vegas: take the 93 South and turn left on Lakeshore Rd. There is a small parking lot (~10 cars) at the trailhead but since the lot was full, we had to park up at the Alan Bible Visitor Center (larger lot with plenty of parking). You just walk down the trail from the visitor center to the trailhead. The trail is flat, dusty and gravely. You pass through 5 tunnels on your way to the Dam. Unfortunately we did not hear any bats, shucks. There are some signs with historic facts on them, take a minute to read them. Learn where the "bathtub ring" is. Take a gander at Lake Mead to see how low the water level has become. Exciting stuff I tell ya! Once you exit the last tunnel, there are 3 options: 1) turn around and go back 2) continue on to the Hoover Dam 3) cross the Mike O'Callaghan bridge We chose path #2. After the tunnels the trail has more of an incline/decline. Just follow it to the stairs which take you to the Hoover Dam parking garage. Legit RIGHT THERE and you're at the Hoover Dam with all the other tourists. We walked to Arizona and took a pic with the state sign. Really, how cool is that to walk to a different state?! The total hike from car to Dam was ~8 miles. Most def felt the workout for the next 2 days. Well worth it and fun! I would do it again and cross the bridge next time. Norm K's review was really helpful as well. There aren't a whole lot of bathrooms on the hike so be sure to go beforehand. There's a porta-potty at the end of the tunnel but my friend decided not to use it after opening the door... I recommend this hike to everyone! and don't forget to bring a hat + water!
